Increase of Minimum Sick Leave Entitlement
The increase of the minimum sick leave entitlement from 5 days per year to 10 days per year will come into effect on 24th July 2021.
What does this mean for you and your employees?
- For existing staff they will get the increase of entitlement on their next sick leave anniversary (not automatically on 24th July)
- For new staff they will get this on their 6 month anniversary
The maximum accrual for unused sick leave remains at 20 days.
Note: The entitlement is not pro rata for part time employees. If you have a staff member who works 1 or 5 days per week, they still will receive the 10 days entitlement per year.
If you run your own payroll, check with your payroll software provider that they will set up to increase the entitlement from 24th July 2021.
