Xero: trashy beginnings?

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure… And one crumpled serviette spelled out the beginning of a $2 billion company!

Xero, now a recognised leader in the field of accountancy software, began life (like all good things) as a dream. The seeds for this dream were coaxed into flower through the figures written on one crumpled serviette – from trash to treasure, Xero was born.

It was 2005, and Xero founder (and fellow Kiwi) Rod Drury had finished a long day of presentations. Across from him sat CEO of Quest Software, and written on that one crumpled serviette was the figure Quest was willing to pay for Rod’s business, Aftermail. That serviette, that figure, was the springboard Rod needed to launch Xero – and with over 1000 employees and offices in New Zealand, Australia, the US and the UK, that initial growth doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon!
Xero is fast becoming a worldwide phenomenon, with massive growth and a dedicated following among the accountancy and bookkeeping fraternity.
